When should you use print preview, and when should you use print layout? Here’s a quick overview of the pros and cons of each view.
Print Layout: - Rulers and scroll bars are turned on. - By default, document is at a readable zoom (80 to 100% of actual size), meaning reading and editing are easier. - Standard and formatting toolbars are enabled by default, facilitating formatting and editing your document. - Best for editing and reading your document.
Print Preview: - Rulers are pulled away from the document, making it easy to see what it will look like without them. (Rulers can also be turned off easily using the toolbar button.) - Only one toolbar is shown and all buttons are relevant to print preview, meaning the focus is on your document. - By default, the document is zoomed out so you can see a whole page, giving you a good overview of what it will look like on paper. - You can easily switch to other views to see a full screen image of a page, or view multiple pages. - You can easily close print preview to return to your original layout. - Best used when you are done editing your document and you want to double-check that there are no more changes to be made before you print it.
