SECTION 3
Lesson 3.4: Using Graphics

If you have a specific picture you would like to use, you can insert that instead of a ClipArt image. To do this, click the Insert menu, choose Picture, and choose From File. (You can also click the Insert Picture () button on the drawing toolbar if you have it open.)

Once you perform either of those commands, a dialog box will open:

Simply browse to your picture, click it, and click Insert. The picture will be inserted wherever your cursor was before you performed the Insert Picture command.

There is one catch to inserting a picture. The picture must be in a supported format, meaning it must be one of these file types:

File Name

File Extension

Notes

Enhanced Metafile

.emf

Graphics Interchange Format

.gif

- Only versions GIF87A and GIF89A

- If the GIF is animated, some editing features will be disabled and only the first frame of the animation will be inserted.

Joint Photographic Experts Group

.jpg, .jpeg

- Version 6.0 (with CMYK support)

- No JTIF support

Portable Network Graphics

.png

- Version 1.0

Microsoft Windows Bitmap

.bmp, .rle, .dib

Windows Metafile Graphics

.wmf

Tagged Image File Format

.tiff

- Versions 5.0 and 6.0 (Part 1)

- If a .TIF file has multiple images, only the first image will be inserted.

Encapsulated PostScript

.eps

So, once you’ve selected your picture in the dialog box, click Insert, and your picture will appear!
